Dr Janine Nahapiet

Senior Research Fellow

Dr Janine NahapietJanine specialises in the links between strategy and organization. Her activities focus on designing effective organizations with a particular emphasis on the challenge of managing across boundaries, within and between firms.

Janine has always sought to bridge theory and practice. Before becoming part of the Ci expert network this was done primarily through executive education and development in Oxford University, designing and delivering both open and customised programmes for international clients. She speaks regularly at international conferences, both practitioner and academic.

She has a particular interest in professional service firms. Her research on global relationship management in these firms grew out of work with business leaders in financial services and she has designed, directed and taught on programmes for partners and professionals in leading global professional service firms, particularly consulting but also law, accounting and financial services. Her article, ‘Strategies for the global service firm’ was published in the Financial Times Series: Mastering Globalisation.

Janine has contributed to a range of major initiatives such as the UK research programme on the Evolution of Business Knowledge, the Advanced Institute of Management Research and the Regulatory Decisions Committee of the UK Financial Services Authority. Her current focus her activity is on Organising for the 21st Century with a particular emphasis on relational perspectives. Specifically, her work builds on two clusters of interrelated ideas she believes are critical to building organizational effectiveness (a) creating value through networks, especially social and intellectual capital, and (b) building advantage through cooperation.
