Don’t ignore mental health

Recruiters might shy away from people with past mental health problems. But there’s a case for bringing them on board, after all they’ve proven that they can work through hardship and learn lessons for the future.

We should keep a look out for common causes of breakdown, such as perfectionism, family breakdown, and overwork and not sweep these under the carpet.

Encouraging a depressed person to see the funny side of life could make matters worse, but humour has a role to play.
