Few teenagers know what they really want to do, and half of 25-34 year olds change career path, suggesting that they made the ‘wrong’ decision. In the UK, the Sainsbury Review and the Building our Industrial Strategy green paper (p.16) suggest a transition year that supports young people to get clarity on their career aspirations. Perhaps this is also a time for them to get diverse experiences that help them to define what they like and dislike. Vocational courses are gaining popularity, but pupils are still making early choices.
