The context
Organisations across every sector are investing heavily in AI, automation and new digital platforms — while redesigning how work gets done.
But many are encountering the same challenge:
Technology is advancing faster than people can adapt.
Operating models are iterating. But few organisations have developed the capabilities and conditions to recognise measurable value.
The result is a widening AI reality gap between what organisations intend to become, and what they’re actually building.
The underlying challenge
At the heart of this is a structural misalignment.
Most organisations are progressing three critical agendas in parallel:
- Operations redesigning workflows and how work gets done
- Technology deploying new capability and AI tools
- HR building skills, engagement and behaviour change
Each is necessary. But when they move at different speeds, organisations experience:
- Under-utilised technology
- Slow adoption of new ways of working
- Uncertainty around evolving roles
- Friction between teams and priorities
Closing this gap requires intentional alignment across all three.
What this session will explore
In this joint session, The Career Innovation Company and Public Digital will explore how organisations can design for continuous adaptation – aligning operating models with workforce capability.
We will cover:
- What truly adaptable organisations do differently in practice
- The barriers that most commonly slow transformation (silos, misaligned goals, lack of psychological safety)
- Why human adaptation is often the limiting factor in change
- How to build a workforce capable of adapting repeatedly as work evolves
- Evidence from large-scale programmes that successfully shift behaviour and internal mobility
And critically:
How real change happens when new ways of working are built into the work itself – and people are supported to act differently, at scale
