Making CPD relevant

For some time ‘CPD’ (‘CPE’) has often been viewed by professionals – especially senior people – as a waste of their time. This has resulted in a tick-box exercise with limited impact.

More professional bodies are therefore moving away from hours-based CPD (i.e. based on inputs) to encourage reflection and rapid impact. Real reflective learning is relevant, supports career development and has lasting benefits. It is impossible to mandate it. So how can it be encouraged?

In this roundtable call, participants shared what’s working for them, and Ci shared the results of a pilot blended learning solution for career development (in partnership with two institutes) which is an example of a new form of CPD support.

Participating organisations:
University of Nottingham, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), Chartered Management Institute (CMI), The College of Optometrists, Higher Education Academy (HEA), The Institute of Conservation (ICON), Royal Society of Chemistry, The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), The Organisation for Professionals in Regulatory Affairs (TOPRA).
